Juha Kurkela

Visiting Scientist

I am a research fellow from the Technical Research Centre of Finland (VTT). I am also a PhD student at the Helsinki University of Technology. My expertise is in the areas of aerosol technology (pharmaceutical and combustion aerosols), particle adhesion and inversion methods. At the University of Minnesota I am studying behavior of fluid and adhesive powders in turbulent round jet by means of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) and Large Eddy Simulation (LES) methods. The work is closely related to my research at VTT, where I study particle agglomerate break-up using a novel deagglomeration apparatus developed at VTT.

I was born in Helsinki, Finland, and I hold a Master's degree in Engineering (Applied Mathematics and Nuclear Engineering & Advanced Energy Systems) from the Department of Physics, Helsinki University of Technology.
