Mehrzad Khakpour

Doctorate Student

I am currently a Ph.D. student and have recently taken my preliminary written exam. Present research interests include the large eddy simulation (LES) of turbulent reacting flows. I have been awarded Graduate Assistantship since Nov. 2001 which consists of three Teaching Assistant positions in the Thermodynamics and Heat Transfer Division, as well as a Research Assistant position in the CTPL.

Originally from Tehran, Iran, I completed my undergraduate education at Sharif University of Technology recieving a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1999. In Nov. 2001, I joined the CTPL at the Mechanical Engineering Department of the University of Minnesota where I received my Masters in 2003. My previous research projects include "investigation of the effects of fluid-field and differential diffusion on the coagulation and growth of nanoparticles", "implementation of a non-reflecting exit boundary condition for subsonic compressible flows," and "implementation of a spectral-based differentiation method to eliminate the numerical dissipation."
