This animation illustrates an iso-vorticity in a low-Reynolds number, three-dimensional, planar jet. The results were obtained via direct numerical simulation using and a Reynolds number based on the jet-velocity and jet-width of 3000.

This animation shows fluid temperature superimposed upon surfaces of constant vorticity in a round three-dimensional jet.

 

Angled Jet Species

In this animation contours of a conserved scalar are shown for two jets which are angled towards each other. The resulting unstability gives rise to a very uniform (in mean) species field, albeit very turbulent.

Round Jet Temperature on Vorticity

Nucleation Rate (1.1 MB)

This animation portrays the nucleation of dibuthlypthalate nanoparticles in a two-dimensional planar jet. The jet containing DBP vapor issues at a temperature of 400K into a co-flowing stream at 300K. The high-temperature stream cools, super-saturation occurs and particles nucleate.
